Oka Architecture’s 3D Printed Studio Explores Circular Design: A Knit Textile-Inspired Facade

CIRCULUS Atelier, the brainchild of Oka Architecture Design & Co., Ltd. (OAD), is a groundbreaking workspace and prototype that showcases the potential of digital fabrication in architecture. Located in Yokohama, Japan, this project is a testament to the firm's CIRCULUS architectural framework, which focuses on circularity, continuity, and long-term adaptability in design.

The building's exterior is a masterpiece of modular 3D printing, featuring a facade system called KNIT. This innovative design goes beyond conventional cladding, resembling a woven textile with repeated printed units. The varying geometry across modules creates depth and shadows, allowing the facade to adapt to changing light conditions over time.
